California Impact Day and North Carolina Impact Day, which took place on October 9th, were days of transformation and service. Let's take a closer look at these events and understand the valuable work they aimed to achieve, with a spotlight on the organizations that received a helping hand. California Impact Day - San Jose, California: The California Impact Day was hosted at the Resource Area for Teachers (RAFT) in San Jose, California. This event focused on making a significant difference in the community by aligning with RAFT's mission. RAFT empowers parents and educators to create a more engaging and interactive learning environment for children. Their approach emphasizes hands-on education to bridge the education gap, particularly in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) subjects. On October 9th, dedicated Excite volunteers gathered to engage in activities that directly supported RAFT's mission. They created STEAM activity kits for students, providing invaluable resources for hands-on learning. Additionally, volunteers assisted in the organization by pricing inventory for purchase and categorizing donated items, ensuring that these resources reached those who needed them most. Lunch was provided on-site by El Viejon Mexican Food Truck of San Jose, a local business Member supporting the cause. The collective effort of these volunteers contributed to a brighter future for students and communities in the region. North Carolina Impact Day - Wilmington, North Carolina: North Carolina Impact Day 2023 took place at the Good Shepherd Center's Sgt. Eugene Ashley Memorial Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. This event aimed to make a profound impact on the lives of homeless Veterans in the region. The Ashley Center, established to provide a safe haven for homeless Veterans, empowers them as they transition to permanent housing. On October 9th, volunteers gathered to engage in a range of activities focused on enhancing the living conditions and general surroundings of the Ashley Center. These activities included detailed cleaning of the shared kitchen, common spaces, and general landscaping. Importantly, accommodations were made to ensure that individuals with limited mobility could also participate and contribute to this important cause. The Ashley Center's program has a remarkable track record, successfully returning 92% of participating Veterans to permanent housing since its inception in 2001. North Carolina Impact Day served as an opportunity to continue this impactful work, providing a safe, nurturing environment for Veterans in need. Both CA Impact Day and NC Impact Day in 2023 were exemplary events that reflected the power of community engagement and service. They were all about making a positive impact and helping these organizations fulfill their missions. While California Impact Day focused on transforming education and enriching the learning experience for students, North Carolina Impact Day was dedicated to providing vital support for homeless Veterans. These events were a testament to the positive change that can be achieved when communities come together with a shared vision of making the world a better place.
