Additionally, volunteers assisted in the organization by pricing inventory for purchase and categorizing donated items, ensuring that these resources reached those who needed them most.
Lunch was provided on-site by El Viejon Mexican Food Truck of San Jose, a local business Member supporting the cause. The collective effort of these volunteers contributed to a brighter future for students and communities in the region.
North Carolina Impact Day - Wilmington, North Carolina:
North Carolina Impact Day 2023 took place at the Good Shepherd Center's Sgt. Eugene Ashley Memorial Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. This event aimed to make a profound impact on the lives of homeless Veterans in the region. The Ashley Center, established to provide a safe haven for homeless Veterans, empowers them as they transition to permanent housing.
On October 9th, volunteers gathered to engage in a range of activities focused on enhancing the living conditions and general surroundings of the Ashley Center. These activities included detailed cleaning of the shared kitchen, common spaces, and general landscaping. Importantly, accommodations were made to ensure that individuals with limited mobility could also participate and contribute to this important cause.
The Ashley Center's program has a remarkable track record, successfully returning 92% of participating Veterans to permanent housing since its inception in 2001. North Carolina Impact Day served as an opportunity to continue this impactful work, providing a safe, nurturing environment for Veterans in need.
